The recently released Orphan: First Kill trailer sparked a mix of suspense and horror from viewers as Isabelle Furhman’s Esther returns for more kills. The film is a prequel to the 2009 horror film Orphan and is ready to hit cinemas as well as OTT.
The 2009 horror movie Orphan followed the story of Esther, a nine-year-old girl adopted by the Colemans after the stillbirth of their third child. However, soon enough, Esther begins to display bizarre violent behaviors. In the twisted end of Orphan, it is revealed that Esther is actually a 33-year-old woman named Leena Klammer who has a hormonal disorder that makes her look like a child and she murders families who adopt her. The film franchise returns to the big screens with its prequel Orphan: first murder.
Actress Isabelle Furhman, who played Esther, was 12 when Orphan came out of. The actress, now 25, will resume her role alongside Kennedy Irwin who will play her double. Orphan: first murder will follow the story of the first victims of Leena Klammer/Esther. She pretends to be Katie and Richard’s missing daughter, Esther Mauerova.
Besides Furhmann, the film also stars Julia Stiles, Rossif Sutherland, Morgan Easton-Fitzgerald, and Matthew Finlan, among others. Orphan: first murder The trailer opens with Katie (Julia Stiles) and Richard (Rossif Sutherland) meeting a detective who claims to have found their missing daughter Esther (Isabelle Furhman). As the trailer progresses, Katie grows suspicious of her daughter’s strange behavior and it is later revealed that she is not the real Esther. The film is presented to provide viewers with a story for Leena and what made her a killer.
The film’s official synopsis reads: “The terrifying saga of Esther continues in this thrilling prequel to the original and shocking horror hit, Orphan. After orchestrating a brilliant escape from an Estonian mental institution, Esther travels to America posing as the missing daughter of a wealthy family. Yet, an unexpected twist occurs that pits him against a mother who will protect her family from the murderous “child” at all costs.
The prequel film is directed by William Brent Bell, known for his horror movies like Stay Alive, The Devil Inside, Wer, The Boy, Brahms: The Boy IIamong others and David Coggeshall serves as screenwriter.
Orphan: First Kill will be released in theaters and on Paramount+ on August 19, 2022.
