In-person independent film festival at Forest Hills ends this weekend

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS – There are just a few days left to watch independent films screened at the Regal UA Midway Theater in Forest Hills.

The 5th Annual New York Film Festival, dubbed New York’s fastest growing truly independent film festival, is a 10-day event featuring 120 independent films.

This weekend marks the final days of the event, with screenings from noon to 11 p.m. daily.

After hosting a drive-in festival last year amid the pandemic, event organizers said this year marks the long-awaited return of in-person shows.

“We couldn’t be more excited to return home to the Regal and see these amazing films on screen and meet the 85 filmmakers that we expect to join us here in Forest Hills,” Festival of Cinema NYC Founder and Executive Director Jayson Simba said in a statement.

Most festival tickets cost $ 17 per screening block, each featuring a selection of short or feature films over a period of a few hours.

Tickets for the two-hour closing block, which starts screenings at 8:30 p.m., cost $ 30 per person and include admission to an after party.

Discounts are available at the door for Seniors, SAG-AFTRA members, Queens Economic Development Corporation members, Forest Hills Asian Association, Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce, Queens Chamber of Commerce, and Community members Board 6.

Since the films are shown inside a museum, all moviegoers must be vaccinated in order to be able to watch the films, in accordance with the mandate for vaccination within the city. Participants must bring proof of vaccination and photo ID.
