Veteran Hollywood filmmakers Ben Rosenblatt and Micho Rutare are launching $FLIX, a new crypto token, to reinvent the way independent films are funded, produced and distributed.
$FLIX decentralizes filmmaking
Their company American Meme will leverage $FLIX to raise capital for a slate of indie films that will appeal to both movie and crypto lovers. A fee on every transaction goes directly to a “movie wallet,” and the team has pledged to invest 75% of movie wallet funds in production and only 25% in marketing and advertising. Profits from movie sales, distribution, and licensing will be used to buy back $FLIX, which will make the token deflationary, so that its relative value continually increases.
Additionally, token holders will receive exclusive access to cast and crew chats, behind-the-scenes invites, votes on creative decisions, premieres and parties, and provide commentary on the movie slate. The founders envision a growing and robust community of crypto and film enthusiasts who can invest in independent cinema both financially and creatively.
Co-founder Ben Rosenblatt said:
“Hollywood is changing again and the most powerful voices may come from out of town. The film and crypto communities are incredibly engaged and powerful. We want their help to create the next blockbuster movie. We want to foster the next big wave of popular and original independent cinema. We’re tired of corporate gatekeepers determining what movies get made. It’s time for a change, and we believe that these new cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies are the keys to empowering the people through decentralized film financing.
Micho Rutare, creative director responsible for the Sharknado franchise, added:
“There is unlimited potential for what Web3 technologies can bring to the entertainment industry. We are talking about a vertical and decentralized cinema. Our token holders help us decide what to do, help us fund projects, and get first access to all rewards, all while holding an appreciating asset. This unlocks new forms of media distribution and more room for artistic freedom. We, collectively, can decide what will be done. It’s an incredibly exciting prospect compared to the current status quo.
While their short-term goal is to increase awareness of the coin and their medium-term plan is to produce movies fueled by $FLIX revenue, Rosenblatt and Rutare have a long-term vision for the token: to become the primary medium of exchange for filmed entertainment transactions, both in the traditional theatrical sector and in the metaverse. Rosenblatt and Rutare believe this financial innovation will create a strong ancillary revenue stream for the industry, freeing filmmakers from the tyranny of corporate bottom lines.
The $FLIX the token is now live and available for purchase on Uniswap. The next iteration of growth will use the initial funds to build a production listing and list the token on larger exchanges.
$FLIX is a cryptocurrency for filmmakers and moviegoers designed to revolutionize film financing. The Filmmakers’ mission is to change the way independent cinema is funded, produced and distributed through new crypto and Web3 technologies. For too long, Hollywood has been closed to outsiders. $FLIX champions independent cinema by raising capital, investing in new ideas, and leveraging blockchain transactions to fund film projects from its proprietary token.
The cinema and the token support each other by reinvesting profits into the currency to fund other projects. Our community of token holders supports each project by voting on aspects of each project. The new approach to filmmaking turns the script on film financing, production and distribution, fueled by new crypto and Web3 innovation.
