Emily Mortimer set to star in drama horror movie Relic

Emily Mortimer slated to star in horror drama Relic

Deadline reports that Emily Mortimer (The shuttered island, Hugo), Robyn Nevin (Gods of egypt) and Bella Heathcote (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women) were selected to star in Natalie Erika James’ dementia-centric horror drama Relic which marks her directorial debut. Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider Man: Far From Home) and Riva Marker are also slated to produce the film through their Nine Stories banner.

Relic was inspired by James’ own family experience following the story of a daughter, mother and grandmother who are haunted by signs of aging dementia that pervade the family home. The script for the film was written by James and Christian White.

“Relic was inspired by the experience of Alzheimer’s disease in my own family and the change in family dynamics as we slowly have to raise our parents. “ James said in a statement. “Basically, he explores the fear and grief of dementia and aging through a horror lens”,

Carver Films’ Anna McLeish and Sarah produces the film with the Russo Brothers (untitled avengers 4) and Mike Larocca as executive producers. The film is funded by AGBO, Screen Australia and Film Victoria with AGBO to manage its international sales.

“Relic’s allegorical take on dementia spoke to us in a deeply emotional way and represents the best the genre has to offer.” said Larocca. “Natalie is the exact filmmaker AGBO serves to support and we are proud to support her and help bring her powerful film to life.”

Mortimer will next be seen in Disney’s musical fantasy sequel Mary Poppins Returns with Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Nevin is best known for her role as Advisor Dillard in the sci-fi action film The matrix trilogy. Heathcote’s film credits include Black shadows, Pride and Prejudice and Zombie, and Fifty Shades Darker.

RelicProduction is scheduled to begin next week in Victoria, Australia.
